What started as one chair in Kelham Island is now two shops, an award-winning name in the city, and a barber team that travels the world to teach the craft.
How it started
Started in Kelham.
Kelham Barber opened in 2016, off Burton Road in the arcade — started by Lawrence after a spell barbering out in Melbourne.
It grew the way good local places do: one good cut at a time, on the back of regulars who kept coming back and bringing a mate. A second shop followed in the city centre at Leah’s Yard — the same barbers, the same welcome, a little more central.
Both sit in the middle of Kelham’s independents — tattoo studios, coffee, murals on the brick — which suits us fine.

We’ve stayed obsessed with the same things since day one: a genuine consultation, time in the chair, and a finish that lasts past the front door. That’s the whole plan.
The team & the teaching

We put real time into training and education, running staff days at home and taking the craft abroad — as far as Taiwan and Chengdu. Barbers learn from us, which is exactly why your cut is in good hands.
It’s also where Number 92 came from: our own line of men’s styling products — clay, matte pomade, DUST styling powder and a lightweight paste — designed by barbers for everyday use.
